Medicare Part “D” Prescription Drug Benefits.

Don't forget you must meet your 2009 deductable before benefits begin.

The open enrollment period closed on December 31, 2008, but here are some facts you should know:

Your existing plan’s premiums and benefits may have changed. Call your plan sponsor (insurance company) to answer any questions you may have about your coverage in 2009.

Under the provision of Part "D", the standard deductable has increased to $275.00 and the coverage gap begins at $2,700 through $4,350. Your plan sponsor can give you a report to let you know your year-to-date out-of-pocket expense.

Unless your plan has "gap" coverage that covers some generic drugs in the gap, you may see limited or no coverage when you reach $2,700.

Don't forget, you'll have to pay whatever deductable that your plan states. Until fulfill the amount of your deductable, you will have to pay more for each prescription.

As 2009 begins, you may want to keep notes about the cost and quality of service you receive from your Part "D" insurance provider. This will help you when it's time to make decisions about 2010's coverage.
